India marks its 77th Independence Day with fervent patriotism and spirited celebrations, both within its borders and on international soil. The ceremony in the country was spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who performed the honor of hoisting the National Flag. He addressed the nation from the iconic Red Fort, emphasizing the government’s achievements, potential challenges, and unfolding opportunities for the country.

In his address – his 10th for Independence Day – PM Modi voiced his optimistic vision, forecasting India’s rise to the world’s third-largest economy within the next half-decade. The Prime Minister lauded India’s economic progress, noting that global rating agencies have recognized its ascent from the 10th to the 5th largest economy since 2014. Modi extolled the triumvirate of “demography, democracy, and diversity” as the linchpin capable of realizing every aspiration of the nation.

Additionally, he shed light on the improved conditions in Manipur, emphasizing the gradual restoration of peace and asserting the nation’s unwavering support for the region. Internationally, the spirit of Independence Day resonated in various Indian Embassies. In Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava hoisted the tricolor and extended his warm greetings to the Indian community.

An address from President Droupadi Murmu was broadcasted, and the embassy, in a touching gesture, disbursed dues amounting to 5.33 Crore Nepalese Rupees to the families and widows of fallen Gorkha soldiers from the Indian Armed Forces. In Colombo, Sri Lanka, the day was marked with lively celebrations.

Meanwhile, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Indian High Commission saw High Commissioner Pranay Verma raise the flag and share excerpts from President Murmu’s national address. Reports of festivities also streamed in from Indian Embassies located in UAE and Saudi Arabia, showcasing the global reach of India’s Independence Day spirit.
